Bringing FlytEDGE to Life: Combining AI and Photorealistic CGI to Visualise the Future of Passenger Experience

At Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) 2026, visitors were introduced to the future of inflight entertainment through a new FlytEDGE experience film created by Neutral Digital in collaboration with Thales.

Displayed on a large-format screen throughout the event, the film showcased how next-generation passenger experiences can be delivered through FlytEDGE, Thales’ intelligent digital platform for inflight entertainment, personalisation and passenger engagement.

For Neutral Digital, the challenge was not simply to explain a technology platform. It was to create a believable passenger journey that demonstrated how these future experiences would feel inside a real aircraft cabin.

Creating Human-Centred Product Stories

Many technology demonstrations focus on features and functionality. We wanted to focus on the passenger experience.

The FlytEDGE film follows a traveller as they interact with a range of connected experiences, including personalised content, augmented reality, wellness insights, intelligent journey management and adaptive cabin environments.

By placing a passenger at the centre of the story, complex technologies become easier to understand. Rather than presenting features through diagrams or presentations, audiences can see how they fit naturally into the travel experience.

This approach transforms technical capabilities into meaningful passenger benefits.

Combining AI with Photorealistic 3D Cabin Environments

A key part of the project was the integration of AI-generated digital humans into Neutral Digital’s photorealistic 3D aircraft cabins.

For more than a decade, Neutral Digital has been creating highly detailed digital aircraft interiors for airlines, aircraft manufacturers and cabin suppliers. These virtual environments accurately recreate cabin layouts, materials, lighting conditions and passenger experiences, enabling future products to be visualised long before they are physically available.

For the FlytEDGE project, we combined these photorealistic 3D environments with AI-generated passengers, allowing realistic human interactions to take place within fully rendered cabin spaces.

This combination of technologies creates a powerful visualisation tool. AI provides realistic human behaviour and character generation, while CGI provides complete control over the aircraft environment, cabin design, lighting, camera movement and product presentation.

The result is a believable passenger experience that can be explored, refined and demonstrated before it exists in the real world.

Bringing Digital Experiences into the Cabin

The project extended beyond the cabin environment itself.

Every FlytEDGE interaction shown in the film was integrated directly into the 3D aircraft environment. IFE screens, augmented reality overlays, wellness dashboards, crew interactions and journey management tools were all visualised as part of a connected passenger experience.

Rather than viewing individual screens or user interfaces in isolation, audiences experience FlytEDGE as passengers would, within the context of a complete journey.

This approach helps transform complex software platforms into experiences that are easy to understand and engaging to explore.

Visualising Future Products Before They Exist

One of the biggest advantages of combining AI and CGI is the ability to showcase future passenger experiences before physical products are available.

For FlytEDGE, every cabin scene, seat interaction, user interface and service experience was visualised within a fully digital environment. This allowed Thales to demonstrate the future potential of the platform without requiring aircraft installations, physical prototypes or live-action filming.

By combining AI-generated humans with photorealistic 3D cabin environments, Neutral Digital helps airlines, manufacturers and technology providers communicate future concepts with clarity, confidence and realism.

This capability is particularly valuable for product launches, trade shows, customer demonstrations and sales campaigns where future experiences need to be understood long before they enter service.

A New Approach to Aviation Visualisation

The FlytEDGE project demonstrates how AI and CGI can work together to create more engaging product stories.

For Thales, the film provided an opportunity to showcase the vision behind FlytEDGE and its role in shaping future passenger experiences.

For Neutral Digital, it represents an exciting evolution in how we create visual content for the aviation industry. By combining AI-generated humans with photorealistic CGI environments and interactive product visualisation, we can help clients communicate complex ideas more effectively and with greater emotional impact.

As aviation technology continues to evolve, the ability to visualise future experiences before they exist will become increasingly important. Projects such as FlytEDGE demonstrate how AI-enhanced visualisation can help bridge the gap between innovation and understanding.
